The amount of energy in an Item of food is measured in calorie. Basically a Calorie is a unit of energy. Our bodies need energy to keep us alive and our organs functioning normally.

When we eat or drink, we actually consume the energy stored in the food. Our body is able to store this energy in the muscles and liver for later use. The problem is that, this stores fill up quickly, so your body will store any additional calories as body fat. To maintain a stable weight the number of calories we put into our bodies must be the same with the number of calories we use.

Balancing the Calories in vs Calories out is an important part of a healthy diet. The more physical activity we do, the more energy we use.
